Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County

I-75 North Exit 1 interchange reconfiguration project at mile marker 1:   Work on this project continues. There is now only one exit ramp that allows drivers to turn both east and west on Ringgold Road at a signalized intersection. Traffic has been shifted onto the newly constructed portion of Camp Jordan Parkway, and the intersection (I-75 NB off-ramp and SR-8/Camp Jordan Parkway) is now controlled by a traffic signal. US-27 (I-124) widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge: Work on this project continues. Motorists can expect nightly closures on MLK Blvd. beginning Monday through Wednesday. These closures will be in place between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. for the installation of new storm drainage pipes across MLK Boulevard. During the work the following Ramps at the US-27/MLK Boulevard interchange will also be closed. Ramp from WB MLK to SB US-27, Ramp from EB MLK to NB US-27, and Ramp from SB US-27 to EB MLK Blvd. The MLK traffic can detour using either Broad or Chestnut Street to 6th Street to Gateway Boulevard. Alternate access points to SB US-27 are Main Street or 4th Street, and the alternate access to NB US-27 will be at 4th Street. The 12th Street tie-in ramp to US-27 South has been temporarily closed. This closure will be in place through Sept. 18. Detours are posted. Motorists should exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone and pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Utility Work on SR-153 (State Highway 153) northbound from LM 9.25 to LM 9.20:   NB on Highway 153 between Hixson Pike and Northpoint Boulevard. Install gas main. Flaggers and flagger signage will be present. June 25-July 6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 

Utility Work on SR-320 (E. Brainerd Road) westbound from LM 2.05 to LM 2.05:   WB on E. Brainerd road between N Concord oad and Rowewood Drive. Retire gas service to 7025 E Brainerd Road. Signage, warning devices and flaggers will be present. June 23-30, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Utility Work on SR-321 (Ooltewah-Ringgold Road) northbound from LM 3.93 to LM 3.93:   NB on Ooltewah Ringgold Road between Thornberry Drive and Bennie Lane. Retire Gas service to 3705 Ooltewah Ringgold Road. Reduce speed, flaggers and flagger signage will be present. June 23-30, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 

Utility Work on SR-8 (Taft Highway) northbound from LM 22.66 to LM 22.86:   NB on Taft Highway between Stewart Road and Corral Road. Gas main for new subdivision. Flaggers and flagger signage will be present. June 18-Aug. 17, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

SR-111 resurfacing from SR-29 to Jones Gap Road:   During this report period the contractor will have lane closures in place during resurfacing operations. No closures will occur from 5-8 a.m. in the southbound direction and from 4-6 p.m. in the northbound direction. Flaggers will be on hand to assist as needed. SR-320 (East Brainerd Road) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road:   During this report period, the contractor will have intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. This work may affect either direction of East Brainerd Road or side streets from Graysville Road to Bel-Air Road. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  The contractor intends to shift traffic to final alignment from Morris Hill Road to just East of Banks Road on Wednesday and put the traffic signal at Banks into service. The result will be two travel lanes in either direction, one center turn lane and bike lanes in either direction from Morris Hill Road to just East of Banks Road.  Estimated project completion date is June. [Jones Bros. The tunnel cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on US-11 (US-64, SR-2), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on US-127 (SR-8), and the Bachman Tubes on US-41 (US-76, SR-8):   The nighttime cleaning operation of McCallie Tunnels, Stringers Ridge Tunnel, and Bachman Tubes occurs between 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Tunnels will be closed during cleaning and detours will be marked accordingly, as each tunnel is cleaned. This work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday at the McCallie tunnels (SR-2) and proceed to the Stringer's Ridge tunnel (SR-8) and on Thursday the Bachman Tubes (SR-8) will be cleaned.  Estimated project completion date is June. [ETI Environmental, Inc./Micka/CNR223]

Cleveland Receives $25,000 Grant To Create New Dog Park

The city of Cleveland has been selected to receive a $25,000 grant for the creation of a new dog park. The grant is being funded by the Boyd Foundation as a part of the foundation’s Dog Park Dash grant program to make Tennessee the most pet-friendly state in the United States. Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm Fire On Workman Road Tuesday Morning

Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched at 6:03 a.m. on Tuesday, to a commercial fire at 400 Workman Road. When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, flames were shooting through the roof and the request was immediately made for a second alarm response.
