Roy Moore Has Not Upheld The Constitution

Friday, November 17, 2017

Regardless of whether Judge Roy Moore was involved in the sexual assault of minors 40 years ago or not, there is a larger problem with Roy Exum's assertion in today’s Chattanoogan that he would vote for the former judge if he could. This, in a nutshell, represents a serious crisis in our country.

For some reason Roy Exum seems to think that Judge Roy Moore is the candidate who will uphold the constitution of the United States. In fact, earlier this week in his column “Roy Moore’s Set-up" Roy Exum wrote in part, "The Constitution of the United States – which Judge Moore has upheld for decades … ” Nothing could be further from the truth. Twice in his career on the bench, Moore ran headlong into the Constitution and was forced to quit based on his inability to adhere to the law of the land. When Exum says that Moore has upheld the Constitution, is he dreaming of a different one or is he just not up on all the facts?

The bigger problem for Exum, Moore, Bannon et al is that these folks use their own idea of what they think the Constitution is and they are longing for a society that they think should be quite different than what we have today, to the exclusion of many of our citizens. The fact is that a number of “ movement” conservatives are making up what they think the Constitution means and there are citizens who don’t know these documents following along. Whatever “movement” Exum considers himself to be in, he should ask himself the question, “Why would I vote for someone who hasn't supported and defended the Constitution” as the oath for United States Senator requires? This is how our elections have turned into the chaos we have today.

Frankly, as Roy Exum continues to exercise his free speech supporting deposed Judge Roy Moore, granted by those who framed the Constitution, he should be tremendously worried by those who would abuse and usurp it.
